The Royal Flying Doctor Service established the Wellbeing Centres in 2009, and are now run & managed by Apunipima.
The Apunipima Wellbeing Centres' function is to assist each community in meeting its diverse social and emotional requirements. The Apunipima Model of Care, which focuses on all facets of cultural, emotional, environmental, and spiritual welfare, is used in each centre. It is a community-driven, community-led model.
In Cape York, Apunipima runs four wellness centres;

- Mossman Gorge Wellbeing Centre
- Hope Vale Wellbeing Centre
