Advanced Self-Awareness

Learning the elements of Self-Awareness is key to your personal and professional growth. Once you know these elements, you can put them into practice.

This is the stage where we recognise that we don’t know much about self-awareness as a *thing*, but we are now more conscious that there is value in knowing about it.

This is where we do not understand or know how to do something, but we do recognize the deficit, as well as the value of the new skill in addressing the deficit.

 

The approach we take here is to discuss some theory first, then move on to some practical application of the theory. And continue to move quite freely between to two thereafter.

As it turns out, we all have practical experience in self-awareness already. Whether we realise it or not. We naturally have some level of self-awareness in us, so we kinda take it for granted.

According to studies, our self awareness naturally emerges in us when we are about 12 month old. And as we grow older it is just part of us . . . but we don’t necessarily know the what and why of self-awareness.

And knowing some of the basics, the what & why, of self-awareness will lead to even better self-awareness . . and may well help to explain some of what we already know about ourselves. Hmmmm. Scary?  

 

Learn the basics of Self-Awareness

Many skills we learn are based on knowledge, experience, science, and/or theory. Self-Awareness is no different. It has a theory, and a vast history of knowledge & experience.

Self Awareness theory states that when we focus our attention on ourselves, we evaluate and compare our current behavior to our internal standards and values.  Wikipedia

So like any other skill, there are benefit in learning some theoretical basics first, then applying that new knowledge to practical learning.
